Kennedy Space Center
Kennedy Space Center: STILL history in the making.
While it’s true that the era of Space Shuttle launches and landings is over, the space program itself, and exciting launches to watch, is far from over. In late Nov 2011 the USA launched a massive rocket to take an explorer to the planet of MARS.
At the time of the writing of this post, there were no “space vehicles” planning to land here, but this could be a temporary situation as firms in the private sector have the capability and are competing for contracts to carry people into space.
Here’s A Video of What To Expect
One such venture is currently active “out west” where individuals financially (and physically) capable can pay for a ride into (and back from) space.
While that’s the “action” part, the Kennedy Space Center is rich in touring and historical activities going back to the very first days of the early astronauts and the capsules they rode into space.. and recovered at sea with parachuted landings in the ocean.
A VIDEO of the FINAL LAUNCH
While the visitor can spend a day at KSC easily, and many East Coast Vacations go much longer, the Kennedy Space Center is within a couple hours drive of Orlando and all the attractions such as Disney World, it’s also literally within “a driver and a chip shot” of Port Canveral where ship tours lasting from 3 days to several weeks depart. Just to the north in less than 1 1/2 hours drive is Daytona Beach, home of the Daytona 500… and seeing that facility is worth the time even when there is no race on the schedule. It’s all part of history.
Go just a little farther north and you are in America’s Oldest City at St. Augustine (see the page on this site)
So a Kennedy Space Center vacation can extend to far more… and we haven’t even begun to talk about surfing, the great seafood restaurants, or the fantastic jazz music opportunities on this East Coast Vacation. Try them all! Heck, you might even decide you want to move to Fl!
